Your phone like Nintendo Switch – Razer Junglecat

I bet that most of you have heard about Nintendo Switch. If not – it’s a portable game console. A little bit unique – it features of screen (of course) and two small controllers on both sides – called Joy-Con. But this is still quite normal – the funny thing is that you can unhook these controllers from the console and use them remotely. As two separate controllers or as one. Maaany possibilities, huh?

And now imagine, that instead of Nintendo Switch there is your own phone. Smaller. More portable. Almost all the time with you. Sounds interesting?

You already have a phone for a few thousand zlotys, so instead of buying a new device for PLN 1400, search through the depths of Play Store/App Store for some interesting games, buy the Razer Junglecat for less than PLN 400 and play. It would be fun.

Junglecat is a bundle of two controllers like Joy-Con and a phone case (controllers holder). Product quality looks promising. Price is not so high. The only disadvantage (or maybe not?) at the first glance is that controllers, despite the presence of the case/holder, connects with phone through Bluetooth and has a separate battery (they don’t get charged when attached to the case). According to the manufacturer, on one charging you get 100+ hours of playing, which is quite good value.

You can also connect Junglecat to a PC (in the 2nd and 3rd form – as separate controllers; you can’t attach them to the screen of course), which is another big advantage.

Razer Junglecat costs 100$ what is around PLN 380. For now, the case is offered only for 4 models – Razer Phone 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus in the US and Huawei P30 Pro in the rest of the world. The device offers support for over 300 games – in my opinion it sounds like a good deal worth a glance from anyone interested in gaming.

Nobody really knew who he is. His anonymous name hid all mysterious history about the one man with his own opinion. Everything is hidden behind an author’s pseudonym – Banksy. His street art is forcing passers-by to use their brains. Undoubtedly, Banksy is the most interesting street artist of the 21st century. No wonder that scientists insisted on discovering Banksy’s identity…and they finally did it.

If you didn’t know who is a person of my subject, you should open another website and take a look at Banksy’s art. Only then you will understand his secretiveness. Banksy is a voice of the ordinary people. He discusses current topics. Banksy wants us to take a minute of a break and think about pros and cons of life. His graffiti art pictures betrayals, lack of love, stupidity, war and intolerance, but also a smaller part of his works are full of humour, presented in an intelligent way. However, for the government and politicians, he is only another provocateur.

And what about scientists? Why did they destroy the magic of unknown art? Maybe just out of curiosity. The case was fresh already 3 years ago, but this affair leaves a lot of to think about.

In the past there had been several attempts to unmask the street artist. Someone even said that Banksy is a female and the other added that Banksy is a group of artists. No one was 100% sure, which was really unbelievable, because of monitoring, checking and watching people’s lives in our world 24 hours a day. But the real Banksy came to light after a weird announcement of London’s scientists. The group of experts from Queen Mary University using mathematic, geo-localization and new technologies found out that Banksy is … Robin Gunninghama, who had been suspected since a journalistic investigation in 2008. The team explored the location of Banksy’s last 140 works and identified four main activity centres, three of which were located in London and one in Bristol. After they had compared the facts with British’s activity, they got their own way.

And here start interesting facts. British scientists used a method usually employed to find serial murderers. Criminologists usually use the same technology. Scientists say that they only used public data, without hacking or following the accused. The case seems a little bit dishonest and leaves many question marks, so Banksy’s lawyers contacted the scientists. Until now, no one knows what exactly happened.

Banksy could be the last anonymous artist. Our life is like open cards. We agree to monitoring. We place our life on the Internet. These days it is not hard to be a hacker. You don’t have even have to be a thief. Everything is handed to you. Mystery of privacy vanished with identification of Robin Gunninghama.

JOKER

There are two universes DC and MARVEL. Both of them have amazing heroes and villains. We have Batman, Joker and Superman from Gotham (DC) and Iron Man, Hulk and Thor from Avengers (MARVEL). MARVEL has created tons of successful and fantastic movies. DC not. Of course, we can watch a good film from DC, but we have limited choice. One of such films is JOKER (2019).

JOKER is about the biggest villain in Gotham. Because of him, Gotham is now full of felonry. But before clown makeup, who was he? That is why JOKER was made. This time we can know the history of the villain, not a superhero. Why is he vile? What are his purposes? What was his background?

Despite getting to know the full past of Joker, JOKER is an excellent movie in aspects of production. Joaquin Pheonix fulfilled the expectations. We should not be surprised if next year he will gain Oscar for the best actor. Pheonix perfectly illustrated the mentality of Arthur Fleck, later known as Joker. One thing after watching this movie will for sure stay in mind, Joker’s laugh. When he is laughing, he is not filling us with joy. We see him, hear him, and we are anxious. Let the discussion begin, who was a better Joker, Joaquin Pheonix or Heath Ledger?

JOKER also touches very delicate topics. The diversity between rich and poor, and how people with money treat people without it. Second, even more severe subject is about walking all over different people, especially ill ones. Also, everyone has a story, and sometimes one thing can break them and create something foul as Joker, because Joker was created from hate to mentally challenged people; to poor people; to people that stand out from the crowd.

JOKER is worth watching movie. It is for sure for an older audience, not like Avengers and brings severe subject. History of Arthur Fleck gives us a reflection about our lives. That we are not the navel of the world, next to us are also other people that can feel too and that we should think before we offend somebody, because you never know his/her full background story.

Zielona Szkoła 2019

7 października, z lekkim opóźnieniem wyruszyliśmy na zieloną szkołę. Jako szkoła innowacyjna nie spędziliśmy całego dnia w autokarze, czekając aż dojedziemy do Poznania. Po drodze zatrzymaliśmy się w Grodzie, aby zaliczyć podstawę historyczną. Pan Tomasz Matraszek razem ze swoim klubem historycznym stworzyli kartę pracy na temat grodów, podgrodów i kościołów. Dzięki klubowi militarystycznemu pod przewodnictwem Sebastiana Rybarczyka dowiedzieliśmy, jakie czynniki utrudniały atak na grody. Mogliśmy nawet sami owy atak przeżyć, gdyż staliśmy się żywym taranem. po wymęczającej ale zarazem niezwykle fascynującej lekcji, zjedliśmy obiad.

Następnie powróciliśmy do autokaru i już tym razem bez przystanków naukowych przybyliśmy do schroniska. Schronisko jednak okazało się jakoś dziwnie znajome, po wejściu do środka okazało się, że 6 lat temu byliśmy w tym samym miejscu, ale z Panem Tomaszem Matraszkiem!

ZAPISKI Z KOLEJNYCH DNI

08.10.2019

Dzisiejszy dzień rozpoczął się wczesnym meczem piłki nożnej, ale tylko dla porannych ptaszków. Od godziny 8:00 do 9:00 jedliśmy śniadanie, aby o 9:15 wyruszyć do poznańskiego ZOO. Nowe ZOO jest drugim co do wielkości największym ogrodem botanicznym w Polsce, ale nie jest to typowe zoo. Znajdują się tu lisy uratowane z fermy, lwy schwytane przez przemytników. Zwierzęta, które doświadczyły zła wyrządzonego przez ludzi są zaopiekowane i mają bardzo dobre warunki. Przez dwie godziny chodziliśmy po całym ogrodzie, odkrywając jego tajemnicze zakamarki. Tu okiem łypie puszczyk i sowa, dalej dumny ryś na swym pieńku siedzi, wilki przy kracie zataczają ósemkę. Można po parku jeździć specjalną kolejką, bo teren jest imponujących rozmiarów. Niestety pogoda nas nie dopieściła i z następną minutą temperatura spadała. Po obiedzie w restauracji, zaczęło kropić. Wilgotność ciagle rosła, a dla kontrastu temperatura dalej spadała. Zdecydowaliśmy się na powrót do wyjścia ciuchcią i przesiedliśmy się w autobus. Nowym przystankiem były Termy Maltańskie. Mieliśmy ogromną frajdę z pływania w basenie sportowym, sztucznej rzece, zjeżdżania ze zjeżdżalni, na pontonach lub rur oraz zabawy w piratów :). Dla niepływającej reszty grupy alternatywą była książka i wypoczynek. Ze względu na kilka utrudnień i naszych gigantycznych wrogów: spóźnialstwo i gapiostwo, wróciliśmy do schroniska ok. 18:00. Po zjedzeniu kolacji oraz ogłoszeniach rozpoczął się szczególny punkt programu, czyli … gra w mafię! Alternatywą była gra w Prawdę czy wyzwanie. O bliżej nieokreślonej godzinie udaliśmy się na spoczynek… Zzz

Dziś zredukowana grupa porannych ptaszków wyruszyła na ranne ćwiczenia i biegi. Dopiero o 8:10 życie w schronisku budziło się na nowo. Po śniadaniu czekała nas wielka niespodzianka. Gra terenowa i to nie byle jaka! Klub geograficzny włożył w nią całe swoje serce, pielęgnując i ulepszając aż do bieżącego dnia. W skrócie gra polegała na chodzeniu lub jeżdżeniu z punktu do punktu po Poznaniu korzystając z mapy. Naszym zadaniem było uzupełnianie też kart prac. Każda grupa miała swojego przewodnika, osobę z klubu geograficznego, która jako jedyna mogła używać telefonu (w razie wypadku reszta uczestników miała swój telefon w kopertach, ale w razie otworzenia koperty podczas gry przyznawano ujemne punkty). O 9:15 zwarci i gotowi, w pięciominutowych odstępach, wyruszyliśmy podbić calusieńkie miasto. Obserwowani przez żabki, wśród zgiełku i żółto-zielonej komunikacji miejskiej, kroczyliśmy ulicami Poznania. Najlepszym punktem była 15 – gruzińska piekarnia, gdzie szczęśliwcy napełniło swoje brzuchy smacznymi wypiekami. O 12:44 pierwsza grupa dotarła do Pyra Bar*. Rozpoczęła się tura nr 1, przeznaczona dla połowy grup. Druga tura rozpoczęła się o 14:00. Każda z grup opracowała dwa rodzaje działań – zależy albo nie. Większość miała już połowę, ale byli i tacy którym nie dopisała motywacja lub szczęście. Pierwsza grupa, które skończyła wszystkie karty, była grupa nr 3! (Ania, Oskar, Stanisław, Ignacy i Ola Ł.) Skończyli już o 15:12. O 16:58 zaczęli się wszyscy zbierać i rozpoczął się długo oczekiwany mecz piłki nożnej! Nie dało się zliczyć śmiesznych sytuacji oraz dobrych i złych akcji. Najważniejsze jest to, że wszyscy uczestnicy wybornie się bawili. Chcę także podziękować świetnej obronie Ksawerego (czy to bramka czy obronna) 😉 Niestety byliśmy zmuszeni skończyć, ponieważ czas nieubłaganie płynął. Zjedliśmy kolację. Dzisiaj panowała w schronisku Caryca Katarzyna i nikt nie był w stanie się Jej sprzeciwić. Panował powszechny ład i porządek. Prawie punktualnie zebraliśmy się w jadalni na ogłoszenia i rozeszliśmy się w mniejsze grupki, podzielić się wrażeniami i wypocząć. Dobranoc wszystkim.

Nadal żyjemy! Po przejściu 58 tys kroków, znamy dokładnie anatomię naszego ciała. Przy śniadaniu spotkał nas ogromny zawód. Nigdzie nie było miodu. Ale my się nie poddajemy. Po przeprowadzonym śledztwie, można było stwierdzić następujące fakty:

20:00 – Antek Szostek widział miód na stole kuchennym.

22:00 – Pan Janek także widział miód w kuchni.

23:00 – miód nadal jest na stanowisku.

ok. 24:00 – podobno miód został wyniesiony i świadek słyszał, że mówiono o prysznicu.

Na szczęście cała sprawa ma swój happy end. Miód został zlokalizowany, proszę o werble, w lodówce! Cały i zdrów. Nieustannie pilnuje nas Pani Kasia, więc panuje ogólny porządek. Mieliśmy zebranie, a o 11:00 zwarci i gotowi, pojechaliśmy na Międzynarodowe Poznańskie Targi. Jest to wielki teren z przeróżnymi halami, przejściami i stanowiskami, które pełne są przeróżnych sprzętów, katalogów i cukierków. Morze ludzi nadaje temu wszystkiemu przedziwne znaczenie. Przecież właśnie tutaj dokonuje się przetargów handlowych nawet na kilka lat. Poza tym jeśli nie jesteś na żadnym targu, to nie istniejesz. Takie są zasady marketingu. Reklama to podstawa. Za dziesięć trzynasta przeszliśmy do kolejnej sali, w której trwały przygotowania na wernisaż. Jednak my byliśmy tutaj z innego powodu. Mieliśmy znowu zagrać w grę terenową. Zasady były proste. Dostaliśmy mapki z QR kodami. Aby odblokować następny punkt, musieliśmy odpowiedzieć na pytanie, wpisać na telefonie i wyruszyć dalej. Utrzymywaliśmy stały kontakt z panem dyrektorem Stanisławem, a w razie jakichkolwiek problemów mieliśmy wysłać wiadomość SOS, ale wiązało się to z dodaniem 5 minut. Cała gra trwała 90 minut i nie była najprostsza. Dostaliśmy na nią o wiele za mało czasu. Na dodatek w trakcie zaczęło padać. Przemoczeni, spóźnieni wreszcie zebraliśmy się w hali piątej, aby dowiedzieć się,kto wygrał. Przed ogłoszeniem wyników, drużyna nr 4 była niezmiernie ciekawa, czy odwiedzi nas tajemniczy pan Stanisław. Przecież byliśmy umówieni z dyrektorem. Wicedyrektor niestety nas zmartwił, ponieważ dyrektor Stanisław już od dawna nie żył… wtedy wszyscy wybuchnęli śmiechem. W trakcie gry nie zawsze wpuszczano uczniów w każde możliwe miejsce. Na przykład, była hala nr 3A, w której były zorganizowane firmowe targi. Szkoda, że akurat w środku mieliśmy nagrać przemowę prezydenta, na temat Powszechnej Wystawy Krajowej. Kilka grup mówiło: „Mamy pozwolenie od Pana Stanisława – dyrektora całych targów). 🙂 Zwyciężyła drużyna nr 5 (Antek Bakalarczyk, Jeremi Kucharski, Antek Szostek, Tymon i Wiktor). Gratulacje należą się wszystkim zespołom i organizatorom zabawy, ale tak między nami, gra terenowa na Międzynarodowych Poznańskich Targach nie dorasta nawet do pięt grze z klubu geograficznego. Niefortunnie wizyta na Międzynarodowych Poznańskich Targach trochę się przedłużyła. Wyszliśmy o 15:12, a o 15:00 mieliśmy spokojnie jeść obiad w jakiejś zacisznej restauracji. Normalnie nie byłoby problemu, ale o 16:00 mieliśmy zamówioną wycieczkę w Palmiarni. Adrenalina i głodni licealiści zmusili opiekunów do ekspresowego myślenia. Co jest ważniejsze. Palmiarnia czy obiad? Po namyśle udało się połączyć dwa pomysły w jedno. Pani Ula poświęciła się i wyruszyła zabrać obiady z restauracji do schroniska, a cała reszta na czele Carycy Katarzyny, ruszyła do Palmiarni. To był naprawdę dobry pomysł. Palmiarnia poznańska to największy w Polsce ogród botaniczny, składający się z ogromnych szklarni wypełnionych po brzegi pokaźną kolekcją roślin i akwarium. Cały ogród znajduje się w Parku Wilsona. Przyszliśmy dokładnie na pierwszy dzień wystawy roślin owadożernych. Najdziwniejsze są proporcje, standardowo rośliny w ogrodach botanicznych są mniej więcej 2-3 razy większe od zwiedzających. Tutaj niektóre okazy są co najmniej 10 razy większe. Niesamowite były kolosalne kaktusy, palmy i żółwie z głowami o nieregularnym kształcie, przypominającymi skałę albo raczej bohatera „Star Wars”. Wszystko było spowite zielenią i tylko ścieżki świadczyły o tym, że nadal jesteśmy w świecie cywilizowanym. Po powrocie, zjedliśmy niezbyt udany obiad. Póki nie było ciemno, zwarta ekipa wybrała się na tradycyjny mecz piłkarski. Dzisiaj wydarzenie osiągało jak dotąd najwyższą frekwencję i jakość. Rozgrzewka, podział na drużyny i gramy! Rozgrywka skończyła się z wynikiem 5:1 i nie była zajmująca. Za duży tłum ludzi w porównaniu z możliwościami boiska. Ale daliśmy radę. Wieczorem wszyscy byli już zmęczeni, a więc po kolacji, przeszliśmy do ogłoszeń. Podsumowaliśmy wyjazd, dziękując sobie za miłe spędzenie czasu oraz wymienialiśmy plusy i minusy. Zajęliśmy dość podobne stanowisko, zatem wszyscy mamy nadzieję, że wkrótce zostaną wprowadzone w życie. Na koniec rozeszliśmy się w podgrupy, aby skorzystać jak najlepiej z ostatnich chwil spędzonych ze znajomymi. Mimo wszystko nauczyciele starali się zachować spokój, ponieważ nie byliśmy już sami. TRANSHUMANISM: OPPORTUNITY OR DANGER?

Over the last 50 years the world of technology has changed beyond recognition. There are people who think that if we want to go even further we have to challenge the limitations of our bodies. Transhumanists, as they are called, do it by using implants with all kinds of technological upgrades. Winter Mraz, an engineer featured in a BBC report about the issue, has a chip to open door to her flat in her left hand, a chip with her business card in her right one, a contraceptive implant and a magnet which lets her sense EM fields (whatever the purpose). Since she went through a serious crash which damaged her knees Winter also has a 3D printed knee cap, refunded by NHS. That last one is broadly seen as an obvious direction which humanity should follow, that is to say technology assisting medicine, but the things like your payment card, car keys or mobile phone (still the future) being integral part of your body do raise controversies. Especially in the situation when more and more people perform such upgrades on their own using chips and other equipment bought online. They even have a name — biohackers. Should we go this way?

PENSIONERS IN 2060 WILL GET A QUARTER OF THEIR SALARIES

Most of us realize that when you retire you must be ready for getting less money every month. Poles who retire today can count on a transfer amounting to 56% of their current earnings on average. According to calculations Professor Gertruda Uścińska presented to Business Insider this will change in the next decades and it is a change we should think about seriously. In 2040 pensioners are expected to get 40% of salaries an in 2060 it is likely to be below 30%. A simple explanation to this trend is that our society is aging and longer life means the state has to pay pensions for a longer time. In Poland your pension is calculated in a simple way: you get the same amount you put into the system while you worked divided by the number of months you are expected to live — on average, of course. What should the current 30-year-olds do then in order to survive when they retire? Experts say we should make sure we work legally and start saving money.

DEMI MOORE CONFESSES HER MOTHER SOLD HER

Demi Moore, one of Hollywood’s top actresses ever, has recently published her autobiography. While discussing it during an interview for ”Good Morning America” she made a confession not many people would be ready to handle. Not only did she say she was raped when she was 15, she added it was her mother who ”sold” her. One day, she said, she came to her mum’s apartment where she met an older man who used her sexually and asked her in the end: ”how does it feel to be whored by your mother for $500?” The actress says she did not believe the attacker somewhere deep in her heart, but it is true her mother, an alcoholic, took Demi Moore to bars so that men could see the daughter. There are more tragic moments in the biography. For example, Moore writes she stopped her mum’s first suicide attempt when she was 12 and that she herself struggled many times with addiction to different substances.

CHINA THREATS TO BOYCOTT THE NBA OVER A TWEET

Last weekend Daryl Morey, the owner of the Houston Rockets, tweeted a „Fight for freedom – Stand with Hong Kong” image, clearly picking sides in a conflict between Hong Kong (where violent street protests for more democracy have been going on for months) and China – or the Chinese Communist Party to be precise. Chinese government is still furious over the tweet and the lack of NBA’s proper apology for it. Why does China’s fury even matter to an American business that has always been sensitive to social issues and has traditionally „led the way in progressive thought and supported speaking your mind”? Well, the NBA has 25 official marketing partnerships and over 200 stores in China. In the 2017-18 season 600 million people watched NBA games broadcast there – more than in the US itself. NBA’s business deals in Asia are worth billions of dollars. Morey has already deleted the tweet and NBA’s commisioner Adam Silver issued a statement saying that it regrets offending the leagues’s Chinese fans, but at the same time emphasized that he was not apologising for Daryl Morey exercising his freedom of speech. Meanwhile politicians in the US are accusing the NBA of caving in, while the Chinese feel the actual apology is still missing and threat to boycott the league further. It is a classic example of a lose-lose situation, where standing (or not standing up enough) for your principles causes backlash from both sides of a conflict.

TRANSHUMANISMUS: GELEGENHEIT ODER GEFAHR?

In den letzten 50 Jahren hat sich die Welt der Technologie unerkennbar verändert. Es gibt Menschen die glauben, dass wir in der nächsten Stufe die Einschränkungen unserer Körper herausfordern sollten. Transhumanists (Transmenschen), wie sie jetzt heißen, versuchen es bereits mit Implantaten, die verschiedene technologische Verbesserungen beinhalten. Winter Mraz, eine Ingenieurin aus der neusten BBC Reportage über Transhumanismus, hat einen Chip zum Öffnen und Schließen der Haustür in ihrer linken Hand, einen Visitenkartechip in der rechten, ein kontrazeptives Implantat, als auch einen Magnet, der sie elektromagnetisches Feld erkennen läßt (wozu auch immer). Seitdem sie einen schweren Unfall überlebte, in dem sie ihre Knien schwer verletzt hat, trägt sie auch eine 3D-gedrückte Kniescheibe, rückerstattet von NHS. Diese letzte Verbesserung gilt wohl als eine klare Entwicklungsrichtung, die die Menschlichkeit folgen soll. Das heißt, Technologie als Unterstützung für Medizin. Aber die Zahlungskarten, Autoschlüssel oder Handys (das kommt noch) als eingebaute Teile unseres Körpers – das sind die Sachen die (noch) einen Streit auslösen. Besonders weil viele Menschen diese Verbesserungen mit Chips und anderen online ge-kauften Geräten selbst umsetzen. Diese Menschen haben sogar einen Namen – Biohackers. Wollen wir wirklich da rein?

En los últimos 50 años, el mundo de la tecnología ha cambiado más allá del reconocimiento. Hay personas que piensan que si queremos ir aún más lejos tenemos que desafiar las limitaciones de nuestros cuerpos. Los transhumanistas, como se les llama, lo hacen mediante el uso de implantes con todo tipo de actualizaciones tecnológicas. Winter Mraz, un ingeniero que mostró en un informe de la BBC sobre el tema, tiene un chip para abrir la puerta de su apartamento en la mano izquierda, un chip con su tarjeta de presentación en la mano derecha, un implante anticonceptivo y un imán con que le permite detectar los campos electro magnetico (sea cual sea el propósito). Desde que sufrió un accidente grave que le dañó las rodillas, Winter también tiene una rotula impresa en 3D que fue financiada por el Servicio Nacional de Salud. Esto último es visto en términos generales como la dirección obvia que la humanidad debería seguir, es decir, tecnología que ayuda a la medicina, pero cosas como su tarjeta de pago, llaves del automóvil o teléfono móvil (aún el futuro) como parte integral de su cuerpo generan controversias. Especialmente en la situación en la que cada vez más personas realizan tales actualizaciones por su cuenta utilizando chips y otros equipos comprados en línea. Incluso tienen un nombre: Biohackers.

RED HAZE IN INDONESIA

Photos taken by Eka Wulandari from Indonesia have arguably been the most discussed ones last week worldwide. Because of the so-called ”red haze” what you can see reminds more of Mars than Earth. Literally everything is red and looks very scary. Many people argue the photos were fake but the author denies such accusations. They were taken in Jambi province in Indonesia where forest fires are exceptionally spread at the moment and the skies indeed turned red. Scientists who explained the phenomenon for BBC say it is possible because of particles 0.05 micrometres in size which are present in the haze and have a tendency to scatter red light more. Citizens say the red haze hurts their eyes and throats. Photos being real or fake, it certainly is true a lot of forest is on fire in Indonesia (every year, sadly). This year alone some 384,724 hectares of land have already burnt. The reason is the same as in the Amazon: corporations and farmers seeking money, in Indonesia from palm oil and paper plantations in particular.

GOVERNMENT PLANE RESCUES POLISH VOLLEYBALL TEAM

The last weeks have been an amazing time for Polish volleyball fans. Through most of the Volleyball European Championship they remained absolutely undefeated, winning in spectacular style. Over six matches they lost only 1 set and hardly ever let their opponents collect 20 points, which is very unusual for volleyball. When they were about to set off for Ljubljana where they were going to play their semi-final game, an unusual problem occurred, at least at this level of competition. Because of a strike of a Slovenian airline, the Polish team’s flight was cancelled and they were left with an option of 18-hour bus journey from Amsterdam. This is when PM Mateusz Morawiecki announced Poland would set their government plane to transport the players on time and make sure they are well-rested before the important game. The ”rescue operation” was successful, the semi-final itself, however, was not. After a nervous and controversial game Poles lost against the hosts, Slovenia. To make up for this, they won the bronze medal on Sunday, beating France in Paris.

THE BRIGHT SIDE OF FACEBOOK

Although Facebook made it to the news headlines many times in a negative context (Camdridge Analytica, selling data of users, impact on mental health), it does have a bright side. It all started in 2015 with the Ice Bucket Challenge. Everybody remembers the initiative but few people are aware its real purpose wasn’t just pouring a bucket of cold water over one’s head, but collecting funds for ALS Association. The association’s aim is to help people who suffer from ALS, a condition whose symptoms include slowly disappearing muscles and which leads to death within 3-5 years on average. Ice Bucket Challenge gave birth to Birthday Fundraisers, a way to collect money for charity organizations through Facebook on the occasion of user’s birthday. This is how since 2015 over 45 million users donated their money through Birthday Fundraisers and other charity collections and over 2 billion dollars combined was transferred to help those in need. When a fundraiser manages to attract enough attention incredible sums are collected within days, sometimes within hours. The record in Poland was PLN 16 million during the collection for GOCC (WOŚP) after the assassination of Paweł Adamowicz, the former president of Gdańsk.

THIRD PRESIDENTIAL IMPEACHMENT CASE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES

On September 24, 2019 the Democrats from the House of Representatives (the US equivalent of Polish Sejm) announced that they were launching an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. Impeachment inquiries are investigations checking whether current government officials commit crimes while in office – they are restricted neither to the US, nor to its presidents. In case of US presidents, however, they are extremely rare. Only two others (Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998) have been impeached and neither of them was eventually convicted by the Senate. The reason for the inquiry this time? In late July in a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, president Trump made it clear that he would appreciate if the Ukrainians helped find damaging information on his potential rival in the next presidential elections, Joe Biden. Or more specifically: on Joe Biden’s son illegal business dealings in Ukraine. As Ukraine’s national security heavily depends on US military help, Trump’s actions could be interpreted as extortion. It is important to understand that impeachment does not necessarily result in removal from office. It is only „a legal statement of charges, parallel to an indictment in criminal law.” However, in the famous case of another former US president Richard Nixon, the mere possibility of impeachment inquiry was enough for him to resign even before the actual proceedings began.
